By this point I was dabbling with inking, as well as with pencil shading; the results were encouraging, though the quality of the paper I was using at the time was not. I had yet to discover why you ink on Bristol board and not on sketch pad paper.
I still didn't know the first thing about musculature, or how to draw a hand that wasn't just a row of sausage-y things stuck to a trapezoid. But the shading made it look like I knew something other people didn't.
